Genetic Testing to prevent spinal muscular atrophy with Dr Laurent Servais
Dr Laurent Servais and his team proved that we could prevent babies who are predisposed to SMA from developing the disease at all. For diseases where treatments already exist, shouldn’t we be testing babies knowing we could immeasurably improve their quality of life. It will also likely save health care services massive amounts of money. What do you think?
Patient Centricity - “It’s Not a Tick box” with Hilary Sutcliffe
I was joined by the wonderful Hilary Sutcliffe, director of SocietyInside, who spoke to me about patient centric innovation. How do we as scientists and researchers ensure that our practice is actually centred around the patient to address the issue at hand. We also spoke about trust between the general public and people in science, how that must improved and why patient centricity and reliable science communications is the key.
Personalised Medicine with Dr Youssef Kousa
I had the pleasure of talking to Dr Kousa about a genetics project I’m working on (“Generation Genome” if you’ve read the article) During the conversation he did a fantastic job at putting in simple terms what it means to use someone genetic information in order to provide them, hopefully some day in the future, with personalised medicine.
This was not planned to be a podcast but I thought this was so worth sharing, forgive the rough edit and less than perfect audio from my side!
Dr Kousa and his team are so wonderful and, himself being from an Egyptian Coptic background like myself, I really look up to him and look to his work as an example. I’m sure I will have more from him and his team for you in the future.
Enjoy :)
